NCC Claims First-Ever CCC Postseason Bid
EUGENE, Ore. -- After being picked eleventh out of eleven schools in the pre-season coaches poll, the Northwest Christian College women's basketball team is headed to the Cascade Conference post-season tournament in just their first season as a member of the CCC.
The Northwest Christian College women’s basketball team had a hard time finding the net Saturday night against Oregon Tech at the Morse Event Center, as the Beacons were limited to five first-half field goals. The result was a hard fought 61-45 victory for the Owls, who shot 47% from the field on the night and held NCC to 26% shooting on the defensive end.
The Beacons (14-14, 8-10 CCC) received a solid performance from guard Lori Renner and her eight points and eight board evening, while fellow guard Jacquie Lipp scored seven points shooting 3-of-4 from the line. The Owls defense limited forward Elise Gray to six second-half points and two rebounds.
The Owls (20-8, 12-6 Cascade Collegiate Conference) were led by sharp shooting guard Jenna Ball who scored 18 points with six boards, Ball went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and OIT hit eight three-point field goals on the night. While forward Amanda Johnston added 12 points and six rebounds, in addition to senior forward Cora McVey eight point performance with four assists and four rebounds.
With the results from Friday night’s CCC play, the Beacons earned it first CCC playoff berth. NCC will close out the 2007-08 regular season next weekend with road games at The College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon. The Cascade Conference post-season tournament begins on Tuesday, February 26th.
