MOSCOW, Idaho—Getting two meets under their belt on the same road trip, the Concordia track squads competed in mass for the first time this year, bringing more than 30 athletes to the McDonald Open held at the University of Idaho's Kibbie Center.

Several Cavaliers saw action yesterday at the Kibbie Center for the Vandal Indoor.

Already automatically qualified for the NAIA indoor national championships, Tim Badley ran away from the field in the last mile to take first place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15 minutes, 18.83 seconds.

“It was a slow tactical race that was great practice for prelims at nationals,” Concordia head coach Randy Dalzell said.

Eight seconds back, Badley’s next closest racer was Bowe Edbing, competing for Eastern Washington, with a 15:26.39. Athletes from Washington State University placed 3-7 with the fastest time coming from the Cougars Dominic Smargiassi, crossing in 15:30.58.

In the field events, Tim Dressler turned in the performance of the day with a near one-foot personal record in the long jump after being recorded at 21-8. A day after soaring over the bar at 15-1 in the pole vault, Seth Cordell settled for a successful jump of 14-11 for runner-up honors.

On the women’s side, freshman Stephanie Persaud turned in breakout performances in the short sprints. Persaud placed third overall in the 60 with a time of 7.96 and ninth overall in the 200 by clocking in at 26.44. Persuad’s time in the 60 fell .01 shy of the provisional qualifying standard.

“Stephanie had a great day for a freshman,” Dalzell said. “She ran strong and smooth.”

In the high jump Eunice Makinde approached a provisional mark after clearing 5-1 3/4, less than two inches from the barrier.
