Coyotes Swept at Sonoma State
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Sonoma State remained perfect on their home diamond this season, as the NCAA Division II power swept a doubleheader from The College of Idaho, 8-5 and 14-1.
The wins for the Seawolves (11-1), the defending California Collegiate Athletic Association champions, extended their mark to 42-5 in their last 47 home games.
Game 1 saw the Yotes (4-6) jump out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a Cody Brubaker RBI double, but SSU used a five-run fourth inning, capped by a two-run homer by Chris Cook, to take an 8-1 lead.
The Coyotes would draw within three on a Brad Carlsen three-run homer, but could not get closer.
Game 2 was all Sonoma State, as the Seawolves scored six times in the first inning to record the rout. Casey Theime had a pair of three-run home runs in the win.
The Yotes got an RBI double from Carlsen in the ninth - but managed just three hits all game against three SSU pitchers.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, the Coyotes will meet Patten University in a doubleheader, beginning at Noon in Oakland.
