PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon City’s Kenna Borgmeier has signed to play basketball and continue her education at Concordia University, Cavalier women’s head coach Aaron Christian announced today.

Borgmeier, a 5-foot-5 point guard, has guided the Pioneers to a 19-3 overall record and a No.3 ranking in 6A girls’ basketball this season. She averages 4.1 assists, 2.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game for the Pioneers. For the season, Borgmeier has tallied 90 assists against only 41 turnovers.

“Kenna is one of those players that doesn’t create off-the-chart statistics, but she makes up for it in so many other ways. She is a natural point guard that is a leader on and off the floor,” Christian said. “We believe that she has not yet reached her potential and will have a positive impact on our program.”

A captain this season as a senior, Borgmeier helped the Pioneers to a sixth-place finish at state last season and was a part of a state runner-up squad as a sophomore.

“Anytime you can get a starter from a program like Oregon City you definitely get excited. We feel that she will contribute to our program at a position that we needed to address. With us losing Denise Benedict due to graduation at the point guard spot she has the ability to come in and compete for minutes right away,” Christian said.

Kenna is the daughter of Cyndi and Leon Borgmeier. Her older brother, Bryan, currently plays football for Linfield College. She plans to major in education at Concordia University.

Concordia is currently 15-13 on the year and 11-7 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. In his second season as coach of the Cavaliers, Christian has more than doubled the team’s conference win total this season after posting a 5-13 league record last year.
