ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Despite a 3-for-3 performance in the opener by senior Daniel Flores (San Jose, Calif.) and a pair of hits in the night cap from freshman Kyle Taylor (Clackamas, Ore.), Corban's baseball team dropped a pair of games, 4-1 & 8-4, to the Wildcats of Central Washington Saturday at Tomlinson Field.

Heading up to the state of Washington, second-year head coach Nate Mayben and the Warriors were not sure where they would be playing the Wildcats as freezing temperatures and rain had caused havoc to Central Washington's field. Prior to this morning, the Warriors had heard rumors of the game possibly being moved to Yakima Community College or possibly the Tri-Cities area. Fortunately, Corban was able to stay in the Ellensburg-area and take advantage of the Wildcats' home field -- Tomlinson Field -- but could not come away with a pair of much-needed victories.

In the opener, Flores led the Warriors' offensive attack with three hits (all singles) that included Corban's lone RBI via a single to right field that scored freshman Nate Hiebert (Lebanon, Ore.), who had doubled to left field prior to Flores' at-bat.

Central Washington scored all four of its runs in the third and fourth inning via four hits off Corban senior starter Jordan Emery (Salem, Ore.). Emery went the distance for the Warriors, allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits while recording four strikeouts.

The Wildcats were led offensively by Dean Tomlinson, who recorded a pair of hits in three at-bats that included a run scored. On the mound, Tyler Levin went the distance allowing one earned run on six hits to go along with his game-high nine K's.

In the nightcap, Taylor was the lone Warrior to record more than one hit as the freshman first baseman registered a pair of hits in four at-bats. Meanwhile, four Warriors -- senior Jamie McGraw (Gaston, Ore.), junior Rondie Taylor (Clackamas, Ore.), Flores, and senior Justin Trammell (Salem, Ore.) -- registered an RBI each that included a pair of run scoring singles and an RBI double in the seventh inning.

After allowing Central Washington to score eight unanswered runs over the opening six innings, Corban scored all four of its run in the game's final three innings with Flores roping an RBI single to right field for the Warriors' final run of the afternoon.

On the mound, junior Brandon Wolters (Gresham, Ore.) began the game for Corban, went the first five innings allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out two Wildcats before handing the ball over to junior reliever Derek Stokes (Anchorage, Alaska) for the game's final three innings.

Central Washington was led by Andrew Snowdon's 3-for-3 performance that included an RBI and a run scored, while Alex Milden and Joshua Murillo each registered a pair of hits with two RBI. On the hill for the Wildcats, Derek Shoemaker went the opening 6.0 innings allowing one earned run on two hits with a game-high tying three K's before turning the ball over to Central Washington's bullpen for the final three innings.

With the losses, Corban falls to 2-4 on the young season while Central Washington improves to 3-7. The Warriors will return to the diamond for its home opening three-game series beginning on Friday, February 29th, when they host fellow NAIA Region I member the University of British Columbia beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
