OIT Downs Concordia, Moves to Round 2
KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (February 26, 2008)—The Oregon Tech women’s basketball team defeated Concordia University for the third time in as many tries this season, tonight in post season play, propelling Tech to the second round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoffs. The 62-51 win improves the Lady Owls to 23-8 on the year and now ties a single season win record with the effort tonight to that of the 2004-05 Lady Owl basketball team. Concordia ended their season 15-16 overall.
Both teams were back and forth the first 11 minutes of the game, with Tech holding a slim 17-14 lead with 9:06 remaining in the half. A 6-0 Tech run pushed the lead to 23-14 and a Jenna Ball (Sr. Scappoose, OR) 3-pointer gave the Lady Owls their first double digit lead of 10 points with 1:29 to go. Another Ball 3-pointer sent Tech to the locker room up 13 points over the Cavaliers at 36-23.
It was more Oregon Tech to start the second half, as the Owls were able to bump the lead to 19 points at the 15:09 mark. A CU 7-0 run would then cut the lead to 12 points at 47-28, as Tech went stagnant for a stretch. The Cavaliers eventually cut the lead to 10 points with 5:52 on the clock, but two Owl free throws, a fast break lay-up and two more from the charity stripe pushed the lead to an insurmountable 15 points with 3:00 minutes remaining, as Tech went on to win by the final of 62-51.
Amanda Johnston (Jr. Myrtle Point, OR) led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed a game high nine rebounds in the win. Jenna Ball hit for 17 points followed by Cora McVey (Sr. Dexter, OR) with 10 points and six rebounds.
Concordia had two players reach double figure points, as Maryam Razavi and Danielle Clauson each finished with 11 points in the loss.
