#33 Ryan Beesley netted 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers in 74-68 win over College of Idaho in round one of the CCC Playoffs.
No. 8 Oregon Tech Escapes Yotes' Upset Bid
KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (February 27, 2008)—College of Idaho battled back from a 12 point second half deficit, but a Ryan Beesley (Jr. Rotorua, NZ) 3-pointer with 25 seconds left lifted Tech to a 74-68 victory. The win improves the Owls to 26-5 on the season and sends Oregon Tech to the second round of the CCC playoffs where they will host Evergreen State on Saturday. The loss drops The College of Idaho to 13-18, as their season came to an end.
A stingy College of Idaho defense kept the Owls out of synch for most of the first half. C of I held the lead in the first period before a Joel Matchett (So. Klamath Falls, OR) 3-pointer gave the lead and momentum back to Tech at the 4:02 mark, as the Owls hung on to go into the locker room up five at 36-31.
It was all Owls in the second half, as Tech was able to build a 12 point lead with 15:52 remaining at 52-40. C of I then took control and went on a 15-6 run to pull the ‘Yotes within a point at 57-56 with 7:35 to go, highlighted by five straight 3-pointers during the run. A Ryan Beesley 3-pointer pushed the lead back to four points at 68-64, but again C of I would cut the score to 69-68 with 43 seconds on the clock. Knowing the ‘Yotes would get last possession of the game, Tech ran the shot clock down to the final seconds, found Ryan Beesley open in the corner, where he would hit his last of five 3-pointers on the night, icing the game for the Owls and go on to win 74-68.
Ryan Fiegi (Sr. Medford, OR) led all scorers with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the win. Ryan Beesley finished with 17 points, followed by 10 points and four rebounds from Brent Johnson (So. Medford, OR).
C of I had four players reach double figures, headed by Bryan Champ’s 15 points and six rebounds. Both Josh Owen and J.R. Maggard finished with 14 points followed by 13 from Steffen Spinks.
