College of Idaho Wins Key Matchup with Corban
CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho women's basketball team used a 12-2 run to overcome a six-point second half deficit to complete a season sweep of Corban College, topping the defending Cascade Conference champions, 70-61, in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
After the Lady Yotes (15-7, 12-3 CCC) opened up a 42-33 lead four minutes into the second half, the well ran dry, as The C of I did not score a field goal for over eight minutes, missing 11 straight shots. Corban scored 15-straight points to take a 48-42 lead on a Tami Lambrecht free throw with 10:31 left. However, back-to-back triples from ShaNae Horner and Whitney Owen gave the Yotes the lead for good, and the squad went 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch for the win.
Owen had a career high 19 points and ten rebounds, with Christon Vander Esch adding 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in the Coyote win. Jessica Steigleman led the Warriors (8-15, 4-11) with 25 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.
The Lady Yotes can clinch a home playoff game tomorrow night with a victory over Concordia, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. It is "Think Pink" night, to show awareness for Breast Cancer research - as all fans are asked to wear pink to the game.
