First-Round NAIA Games on Tap for OIT Men, EOU Women
PORTLAND, Ore. – Two more Cascade Collegiate Conference basketball programs play first-round games in the NAIA’s national men’s and women’s basketball tournaments today, as the Oregon Tech men take on Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) at 5:30 p.m. PT in Point Lookout, Mo., while the Eastern Oregon women face Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at 7:15 p.m. PT in Sioux City, Iowa.
In Wednesday’s first-round action involving CCC teams, the Eastern Oregon men advanced to the second round of the NAIA Division II tournament with a 93-62 victory over Edward Waters (Fla.). The Mountaineers now face the unenviable task of playing the host school, College of the Ozarks, on its home floor in the second round Friday at 5:30 p.m. PT. Warner Pacific College was the other CCC representative in action Wednesday, and the Knights, who appeared on their way to victory in the late stages of regulation, eventually succumbed in overtime, losing to ninth-seeded Bethel (Ind.) 86-73.
In women’s Division II tournament action Wednesday, CCC regular season and tournament champion Southern Oregon University fell by a 77-58 count to St. Ambrose (Iowa) in a first-round game.
