PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia women’s basketball coach Aaron Christian announced today the signing of Reynolds High School (Troutdale, Ore.) 5-foot-8 shooting guard Rachel Scarpelli.

A three-time first-team all-conference pick, Scarpelli was named the Mt. Hood Conference Player of the Year after scoring 16 points per game in her senior season. Her offensive output last season ranked No. 6 in 6A girls’ basketball and helped lead the Raiders to a spot in the state playoffs.

“We are very excited that Rachel has chosen to join our program,” Christian said. “She is a special basketball player that can knock down three-point shots and attack the basket with ease. What impressed us the most is her athletic potential and her ability to play defense. We can't wait to get started working with her.”

Rachel is the daughter of Annette and Robert Scarpelli of Troutdale, Ore. She plans to major in nursing at Concordia.

Scarpelli joins Oregon City point guard Kenna Borgmeier as part of the Concordia recruiting class.

Concordia finished the season 15-16 on the year and 11-9 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. In his second season as coach of the Cavaliers, Christian more than doubled the team’s conference win total after posting a 5-13 league record the prior year.
