C of I Ends Losing Streak with 8-2 Win Over Concordia
Alex O'Brien went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run double in a six-run fifth inning, as The College of Idaho baseball team ended a five-game losing streak with an 8-2 win over Concordia at Simplot Stadium.
Leading 2-1 heading into the frame, the Yotes (9-11, 4-2 Region I) batted around - taking advantage of their home park and the sun field to notch a six-pack of runs. Luke Howarth led off with a double in the right field corner, then following an out, Brad Carlsen hit a fly ball into center that was lost in the sun by Roberto Reyes, as the sun-aided double scored Howarth from third. Jake Miller would then launch a fly ball to left that was lost in the sun by Ben Lanier, going for another double, and the Yotes had a three-run lead. Richie Snider added an RBI single to chase Cavalier starter Brett Hawley, with reliever Kyle Corwin greeted by a Cody Brubaker single, O'Brien's two-run double, and a pinch hit RBI single from Bryan Champ to cap the Coyote outburst.
Pat Lyon was stellar in his first start of the season, as the senior logged a career-high seven innings, scattering six hits and striking out three.
The Yotes recorded their first lead in six games with a two-run fourth, as O'Brien had an RBI single and Jordan Lanman followed with a sacrifice fly. CU (5-10, 2-4) would draw within one on a Shawn Turner RBI single in the fifth, before The C of I rally.
Miller and Snider each had two hits for the Yotes, while Reyes and Ryan Sussenguth each had two hits for the Cavaliers.
The Yotes return to action, closing out their 12-game homestand with a Tuesday doubleheader at Noon against Central Washington.
