C of I Splits with Central Washington
CALDWELL, Idaho - Ray Morrison hit a long three-run home run, part of a five RBI Game 2, as The College of Idaho split a doubleheader with Central Washington, losing the opener, 16-7, but winning the nightcap, 9-5, at Simplot Stadium.
Jake Miller got the Coyotes (10-12) going in Game 2, lacing an RBI single in the opening frame, scoring Brad Carlsen from second. After Cody Brubaker was hit by a pitch, Morrison crushed a high fastball over the left field wall into the Caldwell Night Rodeo grounds, making it 4-0.
Leading 5-1 in the fifth, C of I starter Justin Marsh-Quinlan walked the first two men, as the Yotes summoned Jake Bottari from the pen. After hitting the first man he faced, Bottari struck out the next three batters with the based loaded to get out of the jam.
The Yotes would get insurance runs in both the fifth, on a two-run Morrison single, and in the sixth, on a two-run Miller double. Miller went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the win, while Geno Olsen went 1-for-4 with three RBI in the loss for Central (11-10).
The opener was all Wildcats, scoring 16-straight runs after spotting The C of I a 1-0 lead in the first. Hank Anderson hit a two-run homer in a four-run second inning, then slammed a three-run shot in a four-run seventh inning to put the game away.
Tyler Levin went the first six innings for Central, allowing just one run on six hits, fanning five. Tyler Scoggin and Nate Rylaarsdam each had three hits in the win, part of a 21 hit attack.
The Yotes got a 2-for-4, three RBI game from Richie Snider, while Carlsen cracked a three-run homer in the ninth inning.
The C of I, which finished its long home stand with a 6-6 record, hits the road Friday, beginning a three-game series at Corban College.
