PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific College head women's basketball coach Katy Steding has accepted an assistant coaching position with the WNBA expansion team Atlanta Dream. Steding will assume responsibility for player development, scouting and game preparation.

During her seven-year tenure at Warner Pacific, Steding led the Knights to two NAIA Division II national tournament appearances (2004, 2006) and a conference championship in 2006. She was the Cascade Conference Coach of the Year in 2006.

The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame inductee has a long basketball history in Oregon and around the world. The Lake Oswego native was the 1986 Oregon Player of the Year in high school, was part of a national championship team at Stanford University in 1990, and also won Olympic Gold in the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games. After a stint with the Portland Power of the now-defunct American Basketball League, Steding played as an athlete in the WNBA for the Sacramento Monarchs (2000) and Seattle Storm (2001). She retired as a player in 2001.

Steding also leaves the position of Director of Marketing and College Relations at Warner Pacific, a a post she has held since March 2006. “I’m excited about the opportunity in front of me,” said Steding. “It’ll be weird for a bit, as I will not be calling the shots during games, but I’m thrilled to be learning from someone like Coach [Marynell] Meadors.”
