Heptathlon:
Gillespie, leading after the first day, as well, performed solidly Tuesday to hang on to her lead and top a field of 16 women. Gillespie put together solid marks throughout the competition and sealed the deal with a win in the last event of the day (the 800 meter run). She finished in the top three in every event and won two events (the long jump and the 800). All in all she won two events, placed second in two events and third in three events.
Historically, Gillespie's point total of 4,342 should easily qualify her for the 16-athlete field at the NAIA Championships in May.
Finishing runner-up was Oregon Tech's Michelle Klaja, who totaled 4,241 points.
Decathlon:
Sitting in fourth place after Monday, Ohmes put up a couple of big marks and had three other solid marks to pull out the win. Lucas set lifetime PR’s in the pole vault (clearing 15-3, a mark that equals the NAIA provisional qualifying mark) and the javelin throw (with a mark of 182-4, just off the NAIA provisional mark of 183-0). Ohmes' point total of 6,436 is 122 more than he scored at the NAIA outdoor national meet last spring when he earned All American honors.
EOU's Chris Hoppie finished third (6,258 points) while Warner Pacific's Brett VanAsch finished fourth (5,892 points).
