Concordia's Ryan Sussenguth went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk against No. 1 LCSC.
Cavs Fall to No. 1 Lewis-Clark State in 10th
LEWISTON, Idaho—Lewis-Clark State’s Kyle Greene led off the 10th inning with a solo homer to center field to lead the Warriors past Concordia 5-4 in non-conference baseball action at Harris Field.
With the win, LCSC improved to 26-2 on the year and stretched the Warriors' win streak to 20 games. Concordia dropped to 7-12 on the year.
Playing with a 4-0 lead, the Cavalier pitching staff held the Warrior bats in check with Ben Rue giving up just three hits while walking none in the first four innings.
The Cavs struck in the first inning with a solo run via a sacrifice fly by Ryan Sussenguth to send lead-off batter Roberto Reyes home from third. Concordia would continue to irritate LCSC starter Tyler Kniggs with four hits and a walk to generate three runs in the third before the Warriors turned the ball over to Blaine Hardy.
With two outs, Ben Lanier started the surge with a single through the middle. After a walk to Sussenguth, Brad Himes connected singled to center for the Cavs first score of the inning while Lanier followed the path home on an error by the outfielder. Casey McLeod finished the frame with an RBI single to left to bring Himes home.
The Warriors would retaliate in the fifth with a pair runs off reliever Zac Manor and again in the eight with two runs off Brett Hawley to tie the game at 4-4.
With the CU bats silent against Hardy, the Warrior comeback setup Greene’s dramatic home run, his team-leading eighth shot of the year, to end to the game in the first at-bat in the home half of the 10th.
Collecting the win, Hardy faced only one batter over the minimum in the final five innings, thanks to picking off a runner and having a batter thrown out at second trying to stretch a single into a double. In all, Hardy worked 7 1/3, striking out 11 batters while not issuing a single walk.
The Warriors outhit the Cavs 12-9 and were led by two hits each by Brent Wyatt and Ikiaka Lester. McLeod and Shawn Turner each finished 2-of-4 at the plate for CU.
The two teams meet against Wednesday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Harris Field.
