Fagan Walk-Off Lifts Tech Over Southern
KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (March 25, 2008)—Southern Oregon scored first in both games played today in Klamath Falls, but a three-run sixth inning in game one and a Bess Fagan walk-off homerun in game two, lifted Oregon Tech past SOU 7-3 and 8-6. Tech moves to 14-8 overall and remains perfect in CCC play at 4-0. The loss drops the Raiders to 4-12 and an even 2-2 in CCC action.
SOU led off game one with a walk leading to a run, going up 1-0 before the Owls had a chance to bat. OIT answered in the bottom of the second, scoring twice on bases loaded walks, regaining the lead 2-1. The Owls picked two more runs in the fourth, going up 4-1 before SOU picked up a run in the fifth, cutting the lead in half at 4-2. Pitcher Jenni Bittle (7-4) helped herself out with a three-run blast in the sixth, extending the lead to 7-2 Tech. SOU was able to plate one more in the seventh, but that was all as Tech took game one by the final of 7-3.
The second inning saw the Raiders go up 2-0, with Tech answering with a run in their half on a Jenny Austin double and Andrea Wheatley RBI single, closing the gap to 2-1. Three Oregon Tech hits and one SOU error led to a four run third, as the Owls jumped out to a 5-2 lead. The Raiders were able to put a run on the board in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3 with OIT unable to answer. Two Oregon Tech errors allowed SOU to gain a one-run lead in the seventh, before relief pitcher Jenny Bittle, was able to get a ground ball double-play to end the Raider threat. Katie King led off the bottom of the last inning with a single, with Brittany Warren following with a double, that put runners on second and third. Bess Fagan then came to the plate with none out and lifted the first pitch she saw to deep left for a walk-off homerun, ending the game 8-6, sending SOU home with two losses on the afternoon.
Bittle improves her record to 8-4, picking up both wins on the day, including two hits and four RBI with the bat. Sunceray Titus went for three hits and drove in one runner with Bess Fagan 2-3 in game two driving in four runs, including her walk-off three run shot.
