The Warriors defeated Concordia 5-4 in 10 innings on Friday before sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday.
No. 1 Lewis-Clark State Completes Series Sweep of Concordia
LEWISTON, Idaho—Lewis-Clark State ran away with a 15-3 win in the opener and followed with a 9-4 win in the nightcap to sweep a three-game home series against Concordia at Harris Field.
With the results, LCSC improved to 28-2 and increased its winning streak to 22 games. Concordia dropped to 7-13 overall.
The Warriors didn’t waste any time on the attack in the opener with a solo run in the first, two in the second and six in the third to create a 9-0 lead.
The Cavs broke the shutout in the seventh by managing one run against Warrior starter Matt Fitts via an RBI groundout by Tyler Anderson in a pinch-hitting role. The Cavs tacked on two runs in the eighth against Fitts, who went the distance with a four-hit complete-game effort that featured nine strikeouts without yielding a walk.
LCSC tallied 21 hits in the contest with Ricky Reavis turning in the battling line of the night with four runs and four RBI’s in a 3-of-3 performance at the plate. The bulk of Reavis’ damage occurred in the third inning after stroking a grand slam to left center.
Concordia starter Ross Conway was charged with the loss, lasting two innings after giving up six runs.
In the final game of the series, CU grabbed a two-run lead in the first after taking advantage of three walks by Warrior starter Ryan Woods. Meanwhile, Cav starter Jason Grisham held the LCSC bats in check with three innings of one-hit ball.
The Warriors finally broke through in the fifth with four runs against CU pitcher Kyle Corwin. The home team added three in the sixth before a two-run double by Davin Muramoto closed the gap to 7-4. LCSC added two unearned runs in the eight for the final five-run spread.
Woods upped his season ledger to 4-0 after five innings on the mound, striking out seven and allowing four hits and two runs. Corwin took the loss for CU to fall to 1-1 on the year.
Roberto Reyes and Derek Shigano led the Cavaliers offensively as the lone players to record multiple hits.
The Cavaliers return to action on Friday when it hosts Corban College in a Cascade Collegiate Conference match at the Yard. Opening pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
