College of Idaho's Zillner, Eastern Oregon's Monaghan Named Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week
PORTLAND, Ore. – The College of Idaho’s Katie Zillner and Eastern Oregon’s Megan Monaghan have been named Cascade Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday.
Zillner, the ‘Yotes senior pitcher from Emmett, Idaho, tossed the second perfect game in C of I history against Northwest Christian, striking out 10-or-more batters for a 21st time in her career. Zillner also lost 1-0 decisions to Northwest Christian and NCAA Division I Idaho State. For the week, she gave up two runs (one earned), and 10 hits while striking out 21. Zillner has not walked a batter in 34 straight innings. For efforts last week, she was also named NAIA Region I Pitcher of the Week. This is Zillner's second Pitcher of the Week award for the 2008 season.
Last week, Monaghan led the Mountaineers to 6-4 week, including a key weekend sweep over Northwest Christian (9-8, 3-1), appearing in all 10 games for Eastern Oregon University. She batted .448 with three doubles, two home runs and drove in 10 runners. In the wins Conference wins over the Beacons, Monaghan went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and one RBI. EOU’s junior second baseman was also named NAIA Region I Player of the Week. Monaghan is the second Mountaineer to receive the CCC's weekly accolade. Teammate Megan Platz was named Player of the Week on March 10.
