PORTLAND, Ore. – With home runs in both ends of a double header, Ryan Pilgrim collected four hits and five runs to help lead the University of British Columbia to a pair of collegiate baseball wins (12-4, 8-6) at Concordia on Saturday.

With the results, UBC improved to 8-7 on the season while Concordia dropped to 3-7.

Concordia opened the day with two runs in the first via a Casey McLeod (Milwaukie, ore./Rex Putnam H.S.) single, but the Thunderbirds would tally single runs in the second, fourth and fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead before exploding for three runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh to ease to the 12-4 win.

Four different players tallied at least three hits in the game for UBC with Matt Chester going 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBI’s. Mark Hardy limited Concordia to four hits in the seven-inning complete-game. Ben Rue (Silverton, Ore./Silverton H.S.) took the loss for the Cavs after allowing nine hits and five runs, four earned. Rue struck out eight batters and did not register a walk.

In the nightcap, UBC jumped out with two runs in the first and continued to score in each of the next three innings. Trailing 6-1, Concordia mounted a comeback attempt with four runs in the bottom of the third.

Pilgrim provided instant retaliation with a two-run homer in the fourth to give the Thunderbirds a three-run cushion with the score 8-5. Roberto Reyes (Monterrey , Mexico) would add a run for Concordia in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double to center, but the offenses would be denied the rest of the way as both teams would be blocked from scoring the final five innings.

Josh Brink earned the win for UBC after going 3 1/3 and allowing six runs. Zac Manor (Sandpoint, Idaho/Sandpoint H.S.) was charged with the loss with eight runs allowed in seven innings of work on the mound.

Offensively, the Cavs were led by two hits each by Reyes and Jimmy Rudig (Milwaukie, Ore./Rex Putnam H.S.).

Concordia will host UBC in another doubleheader at noon on Sunday with a nine-inning affair followed by a seven-inning game at The Yard.
