Six Homers Lift Lewis-Clark State to 18-10 Win Over Concordia
PORTLAND, Ore. – With Lewis-Clark State scoring in eight innings and Concordia in six, the visiting Warriors defeated Concordia 18-10 in non-conference baseball action at The Yard on Saturday.
With the win, LC State, the No. 2-ranked team in NAIA, improved to 34-4 on the year while Concordia dropped to 11-16.
The two teams matched each other offensively through four innings as the Warriors sprung for two runs in the first and the Cavs equaling the total in the second. Both squads posted a single run in the third and two in the fourth, before LC State sent three runners home in the fifth. The Cavs managed to stay within one with two runs in the home half of the stanza.
LC State once again generated three runs in the seventh to two for the Cavs for a two-run lead heading into the eight. From there the Warriors continued the attack with three each in the final two innings while holding Concordia scoreless the final six outs.
With the majority of the damage coming by way of a pair of home runs, Kyle Greene (Lewiston, Idaho) led the LC State attack with a 3-for-6 performance at the plate, scoring two runs and collecting four RBI’s. Ikaiki Lester (Kaunakakai, Hawaii) added two RBI’s and three runs after going 4-for-5 for the Warriors.
Brennan Ingram (Vancouver, Wash./Battleground H.S.) recorded three hits for the Cavs while Casey McLeod (Milwaukie, Ore./Rex Putnam H.S.), Sean Myrom (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo H.S.) and Josh Mandin (Sutherlin, Ore./Sutherlin H.S.) each collected two hits. LC State hit six home runs in the contest while Mandin belted Concordia’s lone dinger in the fourth innings.
The Warriors rung up 20 hits compared to 13 for the Cavs, the 11th time Concordia reached double-digits in the category this season.
Michael Guerrero earned the win after surrendering six hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings on the mound. CU starter Ross Conway (Seattle, Wash./Garfield H.S.) yielded seven hits and five runs in four innings. Kyle Corwin (Rockaway Beach, Ore./Neah-Kah-Nie H.S.) got tagged for the loss for CU after 2 2/3 innings of middle relief.
The two teams will finish their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the campus of Concordia University.
