PORTLAND, Ore. – The Concordia men’s track team took home six event wins en route to the team title at the Lewis and Clark Invitational held at the Eldon Fix Track in southwest Portland. The Cavaliers tallied 183 1/2 while Linfield totaled 100 for runner-up honors.

The highlight of the meet for the Cavaliers didn’t even occur on the campus of Lewis and Clark as Paul Roshau, tossed a 13-foot personal record in the javelin to win the event in Friday competition at George Fox University. Not only did the mark establish a new facility record at George Fox, but it extended the thrower’s lead on the NAIA outdoor performance list. Entering the weekend, Morningside’s Brad South held the second-best heave in the javelin with a 205-8 effort.

“Paul had a big breakthrough in the javelin today and is on the verge of the U.S. Olympic Trials ‘B’ standard,” Concordia head coach Randy Dalzell said. “He’s ready to go another 15 feet right now and as his technique continues to come together he will certainly see better marks.”

Another national leader, Nik Kay added more than three feet to his school record with a 186-7 distance in the discus. The Cavs received another event win in the throws as Leon Carl bested the field in the shot with a 49-9 toss, three inches shy of the NAIA “B” qualifying standard.

In a school-record performance, Charles Cummings paced himself to a win in the steeplechase by crossing the line in 9:57.07, a 17-second advantage over the next competitor.

Dropping down in distance, 10,000 NAIA ‘A’ qualifier Tim Badlay edged Team XO’s Arlan Bauman by a 4:00.78 to 4:01.09 margin for the victory in the three-plus lap challenge.

Stephen Marshall led the Cavaliers in the long jump by ushering a 1-2-3 finish by CU leapers. Marshall covered 22-0 1/4 for the win while Jameson Futter landed at 21-9 for second place and Tim Dressler hit 20-6 1/2 for third.
