Concordia Women Capture Team Track Title at Lewis and Clark Invite
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Concordia women captured six event wins en route to a team title at the Lewis and Clark Invitational held at the Eldon Fix Track in southwest Portland.
Concordia gathered 157 points to create a 77-point margin over second-place Clackamas C.C.
Annie Hess landed her second NAIA “A” qualifying performance with a 43-0 1/4 toss in the shot. The junior thrower also won the discus with an 180-9. Already the national leader, Hess leads the NAIA in the event by more than 30 feet.
Lakeesha Cadogan earned a pair of wins in the horizontal jumps. After a 17-8 3/4 win in the long jump, Cadogan landed 37-8 from the board to improve her provisional mark to automatic for the 2008 NAIA outdoor championships.
Erika Schmidt took the high jump with a 5-3 1/4 clearance, one half inch away from the provisional barrier and Alice Taylor set a new school record in the 5,000 by cruising to a 25-second win with an event with a 19:04.91.
The Cavs posted their final new qualifying mark in the 400 relay as Cortney Bannister, Kaley Jameson, Stephanie Persuad and Joyce Oniah toured the track in 49.04 to dip under the provisional standard of 49.35. The ‘A’ mark is set at 48.84.
“We can still go a lot faster in that relay,” Dalzell said. “Over the next few weeks we will go light and than come back and really go after those final qualifiers.”
