C of I's Hopper Hits NAIA "A" Mark in 1,500-Meters
Tyler Hopper became the first College of Idaho runner to meet the NAIA Automatic Qualifying Standard for the national championships with a victory tonight in the 1,500-meters at the Chico Distance Festival in Chico, Calif.
The senior, who was scheduled to run in the invitational mile, was moved into the fastest of three heats of the 1,500 - winning the race with a 3:53.82, tied for the second-fastest time in the NAIA this spring. His time was the fastest of the 36 competitors in the Invitational.
Also running well in the 1,500 was Jesse Chlebeck, who recorded a personal-best time of 3:58.86, while Geoff Williams placed 12th in the 10,000-meters with a time of 33:09.41.
The Yotes return to the track next Friday at the Western Oregon Twilight in Monmouth, Ore.
