Michelle Klaja qualified provisionally in her third event, the high jump, clearing 5-4.50 at the Chico Twilight on Saturday.
Tech Track & Field Qualifies Two, Sets 63 Personal Bests at Chico Twilight
CHICO, Cal (April 12, 2008)--The Oregon Tech Track and Field team competed at the Chico Twilight Meet, producing over 60 PR’s for athletes over the weekend. The women had 31and the men 32, for a team total of 63.
Two Tech athletes on the ladies side met or exceeded the provisional marks for the National Meet in St. Louis, MO. Brianne Kenyon , (Shasta Lake City, CA) qualified provisionally in the Shot Put with a mark of 41-5”, while Michelle Klaja (Klamath Falls, OR) qualified provisionally in her third event, the high jump, with a height of 5-4.5”.
Amy Sticka won the Long Jump in Chico with a distance of 17-02.75 and was second in the triple jump, leaping 36-00.25. Tech had three of the top-4 finishers in the javelin with Kelsey Stolz winning it with a throw of 138-03, Sarah Shelb second at 128-05 and Klaja fourth (123-05).
Top finishers on the men's side included Kyle Gomez in the javelin, tossing 178-09, Bryant Sentman third in the high jump, clearing 6-4 and Jguwon Hogges finishing fourth in the 100m, coming in at 11.09.
Several athletes moved in to the “OIT TOP TEN” for the men. Korey Humberston (Cottage Grove, OR) moved up to 6th in the 1500 with a time of 4:08.43, while freshman Kyle Gomez (Bonanza, OR) moved into 9th in the javelin with a toss of 178-09”. Freshman, Bryant Sentman (Cottage Grove, OR), tied his mark at 6th, clearing 6-4” in the high jump.
Making the “OIT TOP TEN” on the ladies side were LaShell Larman (Klamath Falls, OR) now 4th in the 200m with a time of 26.95 and joining her in the 200m was Amy Sticka (Redmond, OR) timing out in 27.27, moving her in to a tie for 7th. Lori Barrett (Central Point, OR) moved to 3rd in the 400m with a time of 61.77 and into 5th in the 800m with a 2:26.79 time.
Nikki Smith (Bandon, OR) improved her sitting in the 100H with a time of 15.26 (ONLY .01 from qualifying to the NAIA meet) and into 7th place in the 400H with a time of 1:08.12. Heather Sebold (Junction City, OR) moved into a tie for 2nd in the pole vault with a 10’ height, while Brianne Kenyon moved into 3rd in the discus with a throw of 116-2” and to 2nd in the hammer with a throw of 134-04”
Tech’s relay teams also moved up the record chart. The men’s 4 X 100 team, including Casey Depeel (Gladstone, OR) , Kyle Gomez, Nate Lewis (Culver, OR) and Jguwon Hogges (Atwater, CA) is now 5th with a 43.44 clocking, while the women’s 4 X 100, including Kelsey Stolz (Bandon, OR), Nikki Smith, Amy Sticka, and LaShell Larman are currently 6th with a 50.3 time.
The women’s 4 X 400, moved into 4th with a time of 4:09.65 (Amy Sticka, Nikki Smith, Michelle Klaja, and Lori Barrett), with the men’s team, (Kyle Gomez, Seth Hernandez (Medford, OR), Nate Lewis and Jguwon Hogges) now 6th with a time of 3:25.90.
The Track & Field team will next travel to the Woody Wilson Invitational, in Davis, CA. on Saturday 4/19.
