Coyotes Barry, Champ Sweep Baseball Weekly Awards
PORTLAND, Ore. – The College of Idaho’s Jason Barry and Bryan Champ have been named Cascade Collegiate Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday.
Barry, a 6-4 junior from Bastlegar, B.C., helped the Coyotes by going 3-4 last week and improve to 18-20 overall on the season, including a key conference sweep over Oregon Tech this past weekend. In that in one game of that three-game sweep, Barry picked up a win in scoreless relief going five and two-thirds, scattering four hits and striking out eight in a 15-6 victory for C of I. Earlier in the week, Barry got no decision in a 6-5 loss against No. 2 Lewis-Clark State. In that appearance, he tossed three innings and allowed just a single run on three hits.
Champ picked up his first Player of the Week award, hitting .433 in C of I’s six games last week, going 13-for-30 from the plate. Champ had at least one hit in every game, collecting two doubles, a triple, a homer, and six runs batted in. Champ began his week by tagging No. 2 Lewis-Clark State for five hits and two runs in a 6-5 loss. The 6-0 junior third baseman from Boise was also the NAIA Region I Player of the Week.
