Corban's Emery Wins Pitcher's Duel Against Rue and Cavaliers
PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior pitcher Jordan Emery hurled a complete-game four-hitter to lead Corban College to a 2-1 win at Concordia on Tuesday.
With the result, Corban improved to 8-22 while Concordia dropped to 11-18 in the year.
Each starter struck out 10 batters while allowing a single earned run after working the full nine innings.
Concordia struck for their only run in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Roberto Reyes (Monterrey, Mexico) to send Sean Strachan (Portland, Ore./Roosevelt H.S.) home from third. Strachan reached on a single through the middle, stole second and was sacrificed to third by Shawn Turner (Hermiston, Ore./Hermiston H.S.) before the Reyes rip.
After Rue (Silverton, Ore./Silverton H.S.) opened the fourth inning with his fourth strikeout of the game, Craig Spicer (Vancouver, Wash./Hudson Bay H.S.) singled through the left side for the Warriors second hit.
Daniel Flores (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian H.S.) followed with a single to the right of third base and Scott Flux (Salem, Ore./Sprague H.S.) made it three straight hits with a single through the right side to bring Spicer home from second to tie the ballgame.
With two runners in scoring position, Rue struckout Kyle Taylor (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas H.S.) to end the inning.
The Warriors recorded the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh. After reaching via error and stealing second, Darren Johnson (Vancouver, Wash./Hudson Bay H.S.) made the trip home by way of a single to left field by Jamie McGraw (Gaston, Ore./Yamhill-Carlton H.S.).
In a speedy one hour and 48 minutes, Jordan walked two batters while notching the 10 strikeouts for the win. Matching the ‘K’ total, Rue took the loss despite only one earned run. Rue scattered eight hits and did not issue a walk in the contest.
The Cavaliers return to action on April 19 when it hosts The College of Idaho at The Yard. First pitch is slated for noon.
