OIT-CU Softball Twinbill Highlights Weekend CCC Action
PORTLAND, Ore. – A softball doubleheader Friday afternoon between the top two teams in the Cascade Collegiate Conference highlights a full slate of activity in a variety of spring sports this weekend.
On Friday, all eyes will be pointed toward Klamath Falls, where Oregon Tech’s 21st-ranked softball team plays host to Concordia in a crucial CCC twinbill. OIT, winner of eight consecutive games heading into the weekend, currently leads the CCC with a 12-2 record, two games better than second-place Concordia. OIT’s only two league losses to date were administered last month in Portland, when the Cavaliers swept the Owls in a doubleheader by scores of 8-7 and 3-2. The Cavs just missed cracking this week’s NAIA Top 25.
The champion of the CCC earns the right to host the four-team NAIA Region I tournament May 8-10. The winner of the Region I tournament advances to the NAIA Championships May 16-21 in Decatur, Ala.
In baseball, the battle for berths in the four-team NAIA Region I Tournament scheduled for May 8-10 continues. University of British Columbia currently leads the Region I standings with a 13-4 record, two games better than College of Idaho, which is in second place with a 10-5 Region I mark. Concordia is in third place with an 8-5 mark.
This weekend, British Columbia is on the road to face Oregon Tech in a four-game series, while College of Idaho travels to Portland to take on Concordia in a four-game set.
In track and field, most CCC programs will be in action. Competitions on tap include the Warner Pacific Mini-Meet, the Western Oregon University Twilight, the Mt. Hood Multi-Events, the Spike Arlt Invitational, the Woody Wilson Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays.
