WALNUT, Calif. – Concordia’s Annie Hess placed fifth in the discus at the Mt. SAC Relays invitational field on Sunday.

Hess, currently ranked No. 44 in the world according to the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation), threw a 179-4 for fifth place overall. Hess holds a personal record of 183-10 set at the Stanford Invitational on April 5.

Only two other collegiate athletes competed in the invitational discus with Washington State’s McKenzie Garberg placing ninth with a 173-7 and Southern California’s Kate Hutchinson finishing in 12th with a 160-10.

Stephanie Brown-Trafton, competing unattached, tossed a 202-8 for the win while Nike’s Aretha Thurmond recorded a 201-10 for runner-up honors. Brown-Trafton is currently ranked No. 4 in the world according to the IAAF.

The Mt. SAC Relays, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, is annual one of the largest and most prestigious track and field events in the world, drawing more than 15,000 athletes from junior high to masters competitors.
