KIRKLAND, Wash. – Gary McIntosh has been named to replace Kristi Brodin as Director of Athletics at Northwest University.

Brodin, a graduate of Seattle Pacific University, has been with Northwest University for over 30 years and also served as head volleyball and women’s basketball coach prior to taking on the responsibilities of Director of Athletics for the past six years. Kristi was instrumental in establishing the women’s soccer program at Northwest U. as they played their inaugural season in the fall of 2006. Brodin was the head coach in both inaugural seasons of the volleyball and women’s basketball programs at NU. She will continue in her responsibilities as coordinator of the Health and Fitness Endorsement program at the university.

“With the transition of Kristi Brodin from Athletic Director to full-time faculty, we are celebrating the good work she has accomplished over the past 6 years,” commented Paul Banas, Vice President, Student Development. “Under Kristi's direction we have started a women's soccer team, upgraded our training facilities, and improved our coaching staff. This move will enable Kristi to concentrate exclusively on academic program development in the areas of physical education, exercise science, and sport management.”

While McIntosh will be performing his duties Director of Athletics, he will also retain his position as the head coach of the Eagles men’s soccer team.

Coach McIntosh is a graduate of San Diego Christian College where he earned his BA in 1996 and attended Azusa Pacific where he received his MA in 2002. Gary was hired in 2003 to lead the Eagles men’s soccer team and came to Northwest University from southern California where he was the head coach at San Diego Christian College from 1998-2001.

While at San Diego Christian College he collected three consecutive Coach of the Year awards for the NCCAA West Region, compiled a 40-19 cumulative record, and trained six NAIA All-Americans. McIntosh also served as an adjunct professor for Azusa Pacific University.

In the winter of 2006, McIntosh was hired to coach the Cascade Surge of the Premier Soccer Development League (PDL) which is part of the United States Soccer League and is based in Salem, Oregon and was hired again for the 2007 season.

“Gary McIntosh has been selected as our new Athletic Director and for the past five years, Gary has served with distinction as our men's soccer coach along with game management, intramural administrative responsibilities and an annual nine hour class load as an instructor in our physical education concentration,” stated Paul Banas. “While he will continue his coaching assignment, I anticipate that he will bring strong leadership to the ongoing development of our athletic programs. This is especially important as the athletic department will have a unique opportunity to grow as the development of new field spaces and facility may be considered in our near future.”

Gary and his wife of 12 years, Laura, live in the Seattle area and have three daughters: Morgan, 11; Ashlyn, 7; Shannae, 5; and one son, Kyler, 9).
