PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Warner Pacific women’s soccer program has added eight soccer recruits for the fall of 2008.

“I am very excited about this year's recruiting class as we are adding more depth and talent to the roster at every position," said head coach Justin Rosenblad.

The Knights are coming off a tremendous season under Rosenblad, who took WPC from a one win season in 2006 (1-14-0) to a .500 regular season record of 8-8-1in 2007 and a Cascade Conference playoff berth for the first time in school history.

“Last season the team took some very important steps in establishing the women’s soccer program in the conference and laid the foundation for building a competitive program for years to come,” said Rosenblad.

The signees:

Kelsey Bishop

Kelsey Bishop, from Centennial High School in Gresham, Ore., is a versatile player who can play on the field in a variety of positions or can play in the goal. Last season as the varsity goalkeeper for Centennial she was voted both MVP and Best Defensive Player. Facing over 100 shots in the season she was voted second team all-conference in the Mt. Hood Conference. Kelsey has also played for the Centennial Soccer Club both as a goalkeeper and field player. Coach Rosenblad said, “Kelsey has a great work ethic, is tough as nails and will go through a brick wall to make things happen for her teammates. She is skilled technical player on the field, and has great understanding and positioning while playing in the goal.”

Riley Murray

Riley Murray, from the Tacoma, Wash., area, is an outstanding player who played for HSA Eagles '87 Blue from 1998-2003 and Eastside FC '87 Red from 2004-2005. She also played for Washington Premier FC in 2006. She has been to the Washington State Cup quarterfinals and semifinals, and most recently with Washington Premier made it to the state final. In high school she was a four-year varsity letterwinner in soccer and track and field. Riley was co-captain her senior year in both sports. For soccer Riley was selected All-King County second team in 2005 and was honorable mention all-county in 2004. Riley also played in the Olympic Development Program beginning in 2000 where she was selected to the District 3 team and the state team in 2001 and 2002. Riley has played the last two seasons at Tacoma Community College where she was selected as a West Division all-star both years.

In 2006 she was named female athlete-of-the-year by her by her graduating class.

Riley will also be running at Warner Pacific for Coach Dave Lee and the track program. As a dual athlete she was selected KingCo every year, qualified for the track district meet in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and to the state meet in 2006.

“Riley is going to make an immediate impact for the program," said Rosenblad. "She has great size, speed and toughness and is very technical on the ball. She can virtually play anywhere on the field and brings big game experience and leadership."

Jessica  Costello

Jessica has played club soccer since age six with Norpoint Soccer Club in Tacoma. She played at the premier level from U-11 through U-18 and has played in many tournaments throughout the West Coast. In 2000, Jessica was a member of Benson Soccer USA, which traveled to Denmark to play in the Dana Cup where her team took third place, and Sweden to play in the Youth World Cup. In 2006 her Norpoint club team won the Washington state championship at U-19, and represented Washington at the Far West Regional tournament in 2006.

Jessica played varsity soccer for four years at Stadium High School where she was a starting central midfielder for the team that placed second in the 2005 Washington state 4A tournament.

Jessica played alongside Riley Murray for the last two seasons at Tacoma Community College, where Jessica led the team in assists both years, and was named to the NWAACC All-Star team in 2007.

Coach Rosenblad said, “Jessica has a great understanding for the game, and is very good on the ball. She has a tremendous field sense and vision which allows her to slip balls in and control games from the midfield.”

Jadrian LeBaron

Jadrian played her club soccer for the North Clackamas Soccer Club, moving on to play for 3 Rivers and Eastside United. When she reached the high school level she focused on being a three-sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and softball. She played on the Rex Putnam High varsity soccer team all four years, earning four letters, and was a three-time honorable menton selection in the Three Rivers League. She was voted by her team Player of the Year both her junior and senior seasons, and was also selected team captain in those years.

Jadrian was also selected second team all-state in softball and is supported by her church, Gladstone Christian Church, and her family. “My parents are extremely supportive and my family is very close, doing pretty much everything together," she said.

“Jadrian is a great all-around athlete with a super competitive mind set," said Rosenblad. "She is very strong technically with the ball and can run at defenses and create with her power and intensity for her teammates. When she defends she is very tough to get past and is not afraid to get in physically and challenge players both on the ground and in the air.”

Lacey Golden

Goalkeeper Lacey Golden, a transfer from Columbia Basin College, was a 2007 all-star selection for the NWAACC. “Lacey is a great goalkeeper, she can make the big saves to keep your team in the game and she makes the routine saves look routine," said Rosenblad. "Lacey had some big-time saves in their playoff game with Clackamas Community College in the NWAACC playoffs, keeping her team in the game and taking CCC to penalty kicks before losing to the eventual champions.” Golden posted 15 shutouts and was a team captain. Golden is a graduate of Hanford High School in Richland, Wash., where she was a three-time varsity letterwinner.

Devan Wellington

Devan Wellington, a transfer from Western Nevada College, started every game in the midfield and helped create a very strong attacking presence for her team during the 2007 campaign in which her team finished 9-6-2 and lost in the SWAC Region Championship game 2-1 in OT.

A graduate of Centennial High School in Las Vegas Nev.,Wellington helped the Bulldogs to a three-year record of 49-1-2 record with three division and region championships and one state championship. Said Rosenblad, "Devan is a very technical player on the ball with the ability to turn and run at players.”

Wellington has played for one of the strongest clubs in Nevada, the NFC Tabagators Soccer Club, since its inception in 2001. The NFC Tabagator’s were Nevada state champions 2001 through 2006.

A member of the Nevada State ODP team in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004, she was selected for the Nevada State Region IV ODP tournament team for both the 2003 and 2004 seasons and was selected to the ODP Regional player camp in 2004. “I’m very excited about what Devan brings to the team, both speed and technical ability. She will be able to attack players and open up games for us," said Rosenblad.

Danielle Rodriguez

A standout transfer from Walla Walla Community College, Rodriguez is a tenacious attacking player. In her two seasons at Walla Walla the team went 43-2-2 and advanced to the NWAACC championship game both seasons. Rodriguez posted 13 goals and three assists in the 2006 campaign as a forward. In 2007 she played an attacking role out of the midfield.

Rodriguez was a four-year varsity started and an all-conference selection for Hamilton High School in Montana. As team captain Rodriguez led Hamilton to a state championship after two appearances in the state final. She was a 2005 all-state selection with 19 goals her senior year while doing the job in the classroom as a four-year academic all-state selection.

Rodriguez was also invited to play in the Shodair Classic, a community event which included a camp and All-Star game to raise funds for a local children’s hospital.

“Danielle is great on the ball and has the ability to make defenders miss and get herself out of tight spaces to create scoring opportunities," said Rosenblad. "She is one of the hardest working players I have seen up front and can score or create goals for other players as a forward or midfielder.”

Marianne "Annie" Rosenberg

A transfer from Green River Community College, Rosenberg was a tough defender for the Gators last season.

In high school Rosenberg lettered all four seasons and played two seasons as a forward and two seasons as a defender. She was named team MVP as a freshman. Rosenberg was selected second team all-league her freshmen and sophomore years, and first team all-league her junior and senior years, capping her senior year with a second team all-state citation. Rosenberg also received the coaches award, and was an All-Academic selection her senior year.

Rosenberg also played softball for Onalaska High School and was a four-year varsity lettermen. Her team advanced to the state tournament all four years, winning the championship twice. She currently is playing fastpitch at Green River Community College.

Rosenblad said, “Annie is a well-rounded, hard-working defender. She has a great touch and is a tough marking defender. She has the skill to go forward from the back and is a dogged defender making it tough to get around her when she is defending.”
