GRESHAM, Ore. – Concordia University won eight events and recorded four new NAIA outdoor qualifying marks at the Saints and Cavalier Invite, a co-hosted meet between CU and Mt. Hood C.C. at the Earl Klapstein Stadium on Saturday.

The Cavaliers now have 10 performances that have reached the NAIA automatic standard and five more that have met the provisional barrier.

Katherine Tripp grabbed an automatic bid on Saturday in the discus with a 139-0 effort. Tripp also improved on her automatic mark in the shot put with a winning heave of 44-2 1/2, nearly a foot farther than her previous season best.

The Cavaliers notched provisional standards in the 100 with Stephanie Persaud crossing the line in a school-record 12.33 for the short-sprint win, in the high jump with a 5-3 3/4 clearance by Erika Schmid and in the triple jump with Danielle Fergason soaring 36-7 3/4.

Persaud was also a member of the Concordia 400-meter relay squad that toured the track in a meet-winning time of 48.89 to improve its provisional standing in the NAIA. Another member of that relay squad, Cortney Bannister, defeated the 400-meter hurdle field with a 1:03.50 to establish a new school record and up her auto mark.

Maggie Pesanti set the team’s third school record of the day with a 43:55.77 in the 10,000.

In other winning performances, Lauren Sexton won the javelin with a 143-6 and Persaud took the 200 with a 25.81 as well as running a leg on both winning relays. The 400 relay rounded the track with a 48.89 and the four-lap squad passed in 4:08.47.
