LA GRANDE, Ore. -- On a day when they had to honor not only their seniors, but a former athletic director as well, the 2007-08 Eastern Oregon softball team couldn't have picked a better day to have their best day. EOU swept the visiting Southern Oregon Raiders (12-22, 10-12 Cascade Collegiate Conference), cruising to a 7-2 first game victory and a 3-2 thrilling win in the second game.

EOU (18-22, 10-12 CCC) got the scoring started very early in game one with a lead off home run by senior Michelle St. John. The Mountaineers would homer again just two batters later with another senior, Lydia Holm.

Holm would cross the plate again in the fourth inning behind a Megan Platz home run to right center field. Platz stretched her home run conference lead with number 13 in game one.

Senior Kelly West was credited with the game one victory, improving her fourth and final season record to 8-11 in her 19 starts. West has accumulated 23 victories at Eastern Oregon in over 330 innings pitched.

Game two came down to the final play with a throw out at home plate. The Raiders trailed 3-0 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, when they began their rally. SOU scored two runs on four hits, but left two key runners on base in their final at bat.

A relay that ended with Holm to catcher, Ali Stosich, tagged out a sliding Alicia Caudill at home to give the Mountaineers the 3-2 win.

In the third inning, senior Teri Cisler's single to right field scored Holm to begin the scoring, 1-0. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Platz struck her 14th home run of the season over the right field fence scoring senior Melodee Mildenberger from first.

Cisler pitched a scoreless first six innings, while only giving up six hits, collecting the win, and Mildenberger came in and collected her league-leading third save.
