Owls Win Shoot-out with Lewis & Clark 15-8
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Hustlin’ Owls completed a successful road trip, going 3-1 over the weekend with a 15-8 win at Lewis and Clark. The win gives Tech a season record of 21-27.
The Owls scored 1 run in the 1st but L&C quickly answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st on 4 hits, including a lead off homerun by Jordan Shibata. Tech answered with a Taylor Skinner (Glide, Ore) homerun to left-center to cut the lead to 3-2. Tech then opened up the flood gates with a 7 run 5th inning including Taylor Skinner’s 2nd homerun of the game and a Ryson Maurico (Mililani Ha) 2 out 2 run homerun. In the inning, OIT sent 10 batters to the plate on 7 hits to take a 9-3 lead. L&C once again answered Tech, scoring 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 5th to make it a 9-7 ball game. L&C made it a 9-8 ball game scoring 1 run in the 6th on 3 hits. Tech then put the game away scoring 4 more runs in the 7th on 3 hits and an error then added 2 more runs in the 8th on 3 hits.
For the game OIT had 19 hits, 3 each by Trenton Smith (Medford, Ore) and Frank Drake (Central Point, Ore). Five Owls had 2 hits each including Ryson Mauricio, Sean Teaters (Central Point, Ore), Taylor Skinner, Dan Ordonez (San Jose, Cal) and Kenny Simmons (Novato, Cal).
Ryan Henry (Carson City, Nev) improved to 5-4 on the season pitching 5 innings for the win, giving up 7 runs (all earned) on 11 hits. Cory Stratton (Klamath Falls, Ore) pitched 2 innings, giving up 1 earned run and 3 hits while Chad Trevison (Mt. Shasta, Cal) and Kevin Huntley (Klamath Falls, Ore) each pitched 1 inning of relief.
The Hustlin’ Owls will wrap up their season next weekend playing 2 doubleheaders at Region I powerhouse Lewis-Clark State College (44-4) in Lewiston, Idaho. On Saturday, May 3rd, the two teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m., and then will meet in another doubleheader on Sunday, May 4th, starting at 11 a.m. The four contests will be played at Harris Field.
