BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Evergreen State's Emily Uhlig ( Liberty HS / Renton, WA) bettered the "B" qualifying standard for the NAIA National Track and Field Championships in a great night of track and field for Evergreen Saturday. At Western Washington University's annual Twilight Meet, Uhlig won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a personal best and school record time of 11:38.53

The senior had a goal pace in mind and with a lap to go, Uhlig used her consistent pacing to move into second place and then into the lead for a five-second win. Uhlig defended her title at this race, winning this event at the 2007 edition of this meet.

Uhlig had previously met the NAIA "A" qualifying standard for the marathon.

Many personal bests and school records were set as weather cooperated on behalf of the athletes. In the women's 5000 meters, Ana Casillas (So, Bellarmine Prep) and Diann Leo (Jr. San Francisco, CA) hit bests of 19:11.43 and 21:22.59 for 3rd and 13th respectively.

Evergreen has next week off as they prepare for the upcoming Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships in Portland May 8-10.
