Errors Costly for Tech in 4-3 Corban Win
KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (April 5, 2008)—Oregon Tech got the pitching they needed from Casey Burton, but a costly error in the sixth gave Corban three runs and a lead they would not relinquish, going on to win by a final of 4-3. Oregon Tech is now 12-20 overall and 4-8 in the CCC. Corban ends their seven game skid and moves to 7-18 and 4-7 in the conference standings.
Tech started the scoring in the fourth inning after Frank Drake hit an RBI single to put the Owls on the board 1-0. Corban tied the game in the sixth inning on an error and then Daniel Flores came through for the warriors with a double, driving in two more runs to go up 3-1. The Warriors added another run in the seventh on a double by Josh Warner, followed by an RBI single by Kyle Taylor to push the lead to 4-1. A pinch-hit single by Dustin Kim Seu followed by a homerun by Tech shortstop Cory Spires pulled the Owls to within a run, making it 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh. Tech had a chance to tie in the bottom of the ninth, when with two on and two outs, a Sean Teaters line drive up the middle was snared by shortstop Daniel Flores to end the game.
The Owls finished the game with seven hits with Cory Spires homering and drving in two. Doubles by Taylor Skinner and Trent Smith were Tech’s only other extra base hits with Burton falling to 2-5 with the loss. CC got doubles from both Warner and Flores. Flores drove in two runs for the Warriors while Kyle Taylor finished 2-4 and drove in one run. Brandon Wolters improved his record to 1-5 with the win, while Kyle Lamson picked up his first save.
Oregon Tech is scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader with Simpson College in Klamath Falls on Wednesday 4/9, 3:30 PM.
