Three Owls Qualify for Nationals at Oregon Tech Invitational
KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (April 5, 2008)--The conditions were not the best at John F. Moehl Stadium, but three athletes from the women’s side earned automatic berths to the NAIA Track and Field National Meet, held in St. Louis, MO. held in May.
Amy Sticka in the long and triple jump reached national qualifying standards, jumping 18-1 in the long jump and 38-10 in the triple jump.
Her winning jump of 18-1 is just under the automatic qualifying distance for the women’s long jump, but will qualify her if it is one of the top 16 jumps of the season. The distance currently ranks her No. 4 in the NAIA.
The 38-10 mark in the triple jump automatically qualified her for the NAIA national championships and the distance is currently third best in the NAIA. A jump of 37-5 is the qualifying standard.
Tech has consistently qualified athletes in the javelin year after year and this season is no different. Javelin throwers Kelsey Stolz won the event with a toss of 138-4.5 and Sarah Schelb followed with her effort of 134-8.75. Both bettered the automatic standard of 131-6. Stolz’s throw currently is the sixth longest in the NAIA, while Schelb’s throw ranks her No. 8.
Oregon Tech, Southern Oregon, College of the Siskiyous and Shasta College competed in Klamath Falls on Saturday and full results of the Oregon Tech Invitational can be viewed at www.oitsports.com on the Track and Field page.
