KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (April 7, 2008)—Oregon Tech head baseball coach Matt Miles announced today the signing of Brent Trask and Mitchell Nelson to the Hustlin’ Owl baseball squad for the 2009 baseball season.

Nelson, a 2006 graduate of Roseburg High School, was a team captain and a three-year starter for the Indians, receiving SOC All-Conference awards his junior and senior seasons while leading RHS to two Southern Oregon Conference titles. While with Doc Stewarts, of the American Legion summer baseball program, Nelson hit .340 with 22 doubles and five homeruns.

Nelson is currently batting .311 and roaming the outfield at Linn-Benton Community College where he was an All-South NWAACC selection his freshman season after hitting .280, helping the Roadrunners to a second place finish in the South Region and leading the LBCC team to the NWAACC baseball championship tournament in 2007.

“We are excited to get such a high caliber player on our roster next season” said head baseball coach Matt Miles” Mitchell is a great ball player both defensively and with the bat. Mitchell will definitely be one of the top players to come out of the Oregon Tech baseball system when his college career is over here.”

Nelson will major in Mechanical Engineering at Oregon Tech and is the son of Bryan and DeAna Nelson.

Trask, an all-league selection at Lebanon High School, lettered three seasons for the Warriors including a golden glove catcher award and an HM all-league.

At Linn-Benton Community College, Trask received an HM All-NWAACC award his freshman year hitting .258 and played in the leagues “Sophomore Showcase” this past Fall.

“Our staff is very pleased to sign such a quality person as Brent to our team next season” says head coach Matt Miles “Brent is a great student and one of the top defensive catchers in the Northwest and will shut-down any teams run game when he is behind the plate.”

Trask will major in Civil Engineering at Oregon Tech next Fall. Trask is the second Linn Benton baseball player to join the Owls and fifth player overall to join Tech for the 2009 season.
