Former CCC Commissioner Howard Morris to be Honored by National Wrestling Hall of Fame
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Howard Morris, a long-time coach and administrator at Oregon Tech and former commissioner of the Cascade Collegiate Conference, will be presented with the “Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award” by the Oregon chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame later this month.
The award is given in recognition of years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.
Morris will be honored at the Oregon chapter’s annual honors banquet April 26. The event will be held at the Wilsonville (Ore.) Holiday Inn, located at 25425 SW 95th Ave. Banquet tickets are $40 per person and can be obtained by calling Bobby Thompson at 541-331-0524.
Morris, who began his wrestling coaching career in 1958 at Tigard High School, served as OIT’s head wrestling coach from 1962-77. Morris also served as an assistant football coach, head football coach and head baseball coach at Oregon Tech. From 1974 until his retirement in 1992, he was OIT’s athletic director.
From 1994-2003, he served as the commissioner of the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
