Oregon Tech's Fiegi Named Player of Year by Coaches Association
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Ryan Fiegi, who helped lead Oregon Tech to the NAIA Division II men’s basketball title last month, has been named the 2008 State Farm/NAIA Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
A 6-7 guard/forward from Medford, Ore., Fiegi received his award at the AT&T/NABC Guardians of the Game awards show on Sunday in San Antonio.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year this past season, Fiegi led the Owls to an overall record of 31-6 which culminated with the Hustlin' Owls' second national title in five seasons. The 11th-seeded Owls went 5-0 in the national tournament, besting the top two seeds in their last two games to claim the championship. Fiegi scored 22 points in the title game and was named tournament MVP.
In three seasons at Oregon Tech, Fiegi finished second on the Owls’ all-time scoring list with 1,924 points. He is also seventh in assists and 10th in career rebounds.
Fiegi averaged 20.1 points per game this season, 18.3 for his career, and has been named to the Academic All-America team and the all-conference team each of the last two seasons.
