College of Idaho Opens NAIA Softball Tourney Play Friday Morning

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the pool assignments and schedule for the 28th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship. The tournament will be held at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Ala. on May 16-21, 2008.

All 20 qualified teams are placed into four pools and will play a round robin pool play on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the eight-team double elimination bracket, which begins Monday, May 19 and will end with the championship game on Wednesday, May 21.

College of Idaho of the Cascade Collegiate Conference, which qualified for the national championships for the first time by winning the Region I title on Friday, is in Pool D and opens play Friday morning.

The defending national champion Oklahoma City Stars received an at-large bid and will aim for their ninth title. OCU is making its 22nd appearance in the tournament, most by any team.

California Baptist is making its fifth appearance in the tournament and looking for its first title. The Lancers were ranked No. 1 in seven out the eight regular season ratings this season.
