7 CCC Players Earn All-Region I Baseball Honors

VANCOUVER, B.C. - The Lewis-Clark State Warriors, the second-ranked team in the country, dominated the Region I honors announced today, earning both the Player-of-the-Year and Coach-of-the-Year awards to go along with nine of the 17 spots on the All-Region team.

Seven players from the Cascade Collegiate Conference were recognized on the All-Region team.

Leading the way for the Warriors was All-Region third baseman Kyle Greene who was named the region's top player, after leading all batters with a .455 batting average, 16 home runs, and 74 RBIs. He was joined in the infield by teammates Ikaika Lester (first base), Brent Wyatt (shortstop), and Brian Ward (catcher) on the All-Region team.

After another dominate season for the Warriors where they recorded 47 wins while losing just five decisions, head coach Ed Cheff was recognized as the region's top bench boss.

One of the strengths of this season's Warrior team was their impressive pitching staff. L-C State pitchers claimed four of the five spots on the All-Region team reserved for men on the mound. Some highlights from that group would be starter Matt Fitts who went undefeated this season, leading the region with nine wins while registering a region best 80 strikeouts. Michael Guerrero, a junior from Monterrey, Mexico, led the region with 1.93 ERA thanks in large part to a personal shutout streak of 31 innings that he enjoyed during the season. They were joined by starter Ryan Woods and relief pitcher Justin Mace.

Although the Warriors dominated most of the All-Region team, each of the six Region I teams were recognized in this year's regular season awards. Oregon Tech's Ryson Mauricio (second base) and Sean Teaters (DH), British Columbia's Mike Styrna (outfield), Corban College's Daniel Flores (infield), College of Idaho's Jake Miller (outfield), and Concordia's Ben Rue (pitcher), Ryan Sussenguth (catcher), and Roberto Reyes (outfield) round out the non L-C State players to earn recognition on this year's All-Region squad.
