Two Outstanding Newcomers Sign to Play Ball With Evergreen
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Head coach Monica Heuer adds two NWAACC transfers to 2008-09 roster. Both athletes, Katie Garcin and Ali Matisons, have two years of strong college basketball playing behind them.
Garcin, a 5'11" Forward from Gooding, Idaho, has played two years for Lower Columbia College. Garcin was a member of the 2008 NWAACC All-Star Team as part of the LCC Co-Conference Champions Team, averaging 10 points per game.
"Katie is a very impressive individual" notes Coach Heuer. "She has the versatility to play tough inside yet she can extend the defense with her outside shooting. Academically, she finished her AA in the winter and we look forward to her added leadership"
Garcin graduated from Gooding High School where she participated in Rodeo Club and golf in addition to Basketball. She plans to focus on philosophy and pre-med while attending Evergreen.
Aberdeen High School graduate Ali Matisons will also join the team. The 5' 9" guard/forward was honored in high school for basketball, swimming and track and field.
While earning an early AA degree from Centralia Community College, Matisons was recognized with All-NWAACC Team Honorable Mention honors.
Coach Heuer is familiar with Matison's play.
"I have watched Ali since she was in high school. With her quick shot, she will bring additional outside shooting to our team. She comes from a winning program and can get up and down the court".
Her most recent stats average 9 points per game, 42% from three point range and 78% of her free throws.
The two newest signees will join freshman guard Keisha McDonald from River Ridge High School (2A State Champions) as the standout newcomers thus far.
