Corban Adds Another Pair of Runners to List of '08-09 Recruits
SALEM, Ore. - Sixth-year head coach Norm Berney announced the signing of a pair of freshmen that will compete for Corban's cross country and track teams beginning with the upcoming 2008 season.
Freshman Cory Shields (Jefferson, Ore.), who just completed his track season at nearby Jefferson High School, will join the Warriors' track & field team, while fellow freshman Jennifer Hague (Florence, Ore.) will become a member of the Warriors' cross country and track teams next season.
Shields, who just completed his senior season as a member of nearby Jefferson High School's track team, finished 10th in the state in the 200 meter dash thanks to a time of 23.64 before bringing home a "bronze" medal in the 400 meter run in a time of 52.14. Shields also helped Jefferson's 4x100 relay team to a state championship at the 2007 3A state meet before helping the Lions to a runner-up finish this past season.
Shields also ran one season of cross country for Jefferson High School before turning his attention to track full-time following his sophomore campaign.
Hague, who just finished her senior cross country and track seasons at Siuslaw High School, helped lead the Vikings to four straight district and state championships in cross country. Individually, Hague finished eighth as a senior, ninth as a junior, 13th as a sophomore, and 17th as a freshman at the state cross country championships.
For each of the past three seasons, Hague has earned all-state 2nd team honors, while being named as part of the all-state 3rd team as a 2004 freshman.
Along with her high school cross country experience, Hague has also competed in the annual Nike Border Clash three straight years as part of Team Oregon.
Both Shields and Hague joins fellow incoming freshmen Caleb Goins (Scio, Ore.) and Rachel Beck (Albany, Ore.) to make up the incoming Class of 2012.
The 2008 cross country season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 6th, at the annual Boxer Rebellion hosted by NCAA Division III member Pacific University in Forest Grove beginning at 10:00 a.m.
