PORTLAND, Ore. - Oregon Tech pitcher/designated player Jenni Bittle and College of Idaho pitcher Katie Zillner have been voted Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, by a vote of the Cascade Collegiate Conference softball coaches, the league office announced Monday.

Bittle (5-8, Sr., Central Point, Ore.) led the Owls to the 2008 Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season crown by hitting .397 for the year. As a batter, Bittle is leading the CCC in both hits (56) and runs scored (43). As a pitcher, Bittle is tied with Concordia’s Danielle Pulfrey with 17 wins and was second only to Pitcher of the Year Zillner in the pitcher’s circle with an ERA of 1.81.

The College of Idaho’s Katie Zillner (5-8, Sr., Emmett, Idaho) claimed the Pitcher of the Year award as she leads the CCC in ERA (1.22) and is limiting opposing batters to a collective .180 batting average. Zillner also struck out 203 batters in 1321/3 innings this season and has not allowed an earned run in her last five appearances.

The Newcomer of the Year award was earned by Eastern Oregon University’s Megan Platz. Platz led all hitters with 14 homers this season for the Mountaineers. Her .708 slugging percentage was second only to Oregon Tech’s Brittany Warren (.728).

For the third time in the past four years, Oregon Tech head coach Greg Stewart was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year. This season, Stewart and his Owls finished the regular-season with an overall record of 34-12 (.739) and are currently ranked 21st in the latest NAIA coaches’ poll.
