PORTLAND, Ore. Distance runners Linsie Michels of Salem, Ore., Andria Scheese of Milwaukie, Ore., and Lauren Moran of Lake Stevens, Wash., have signed to continue their education and compete for Concordia University, Cavalier head cross country and track and field coach Randy Dalzell announced today.

“The addition of these three women for cross country really gives us a strong women’s team when combined with our returning athletes,” Dalzell said.

Michels will arrive in Portland after a year competing for Concordia-Irvine. While competing for the Eagles as a freshman, Michels helped the team to an 18th place finish at the NAIA cross country championships. During the track season, Michels was a member of national championship qualifying 1,600- and 3,200-meter relay teams as well as individually qualifying in the 800 where she took seventh overall. Her 3,200 relay team took fifth place at nationals to earn the quartet All-American status.

As a prep athlete for Cascade High School in Turner, Ore., Michels captured three state championships in the 800 as well as a cross country title in 2006.

“Linsie is one of the most successful female runners in recent Oregon high school history having won multiple state titles in track as well as the state cross country meet,” Dalzell said. “We’re thrilled to add her to our team and look forward to some great experiences for her in both track and cross country here at Concordia University.”

Scheese will arrive at Concordia after spending two seasons at Clackamas Community College. While competing for the Cougars, Scheese was the Southern Region Cross Country Champion in the NWAACC, winning the race by a 29-second margin. At nationals, Scheese led the Clackamas with a seventh-place finish. On the track, Scheese finished fourth in the 1,500 and was a junior college All-American in the 800 after finishing overall. Scheese is a graduate of Oregon City High School.

“Andria adds another high quality cross country runner with great credentials,” Dalzell said. “She is also blessed with good leg speed and runs very well anywhere from the 800 to the 5,000.”

Moran was a four-year letterwinner in cross country and track and field at Archbishop Murphy in Everett, Wash. A three-time all-conference performer and three-time state qualifier in cross country, Moran holds seven school records for Archbishop Murphy. Moran’s personal records include 2:21 in the 800 and 5:19 in the 1,600. An outstanding athlete, Moran played basketball for four seasons and also competed in the high jump and triple jump during the track season, having cleared 5-1 in the vertical jump and 34-2 in the triple.

“Lauren is a very good all-around athlete that will thrive with the training partners she will have in Linsie and Andria along with our top returning ladies in cross country,” Dalzell said.
