NCU Announces 2008 Women's Soccer Recruiting Class
EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian University women’s soccer coach Vern Stewart announce this week his completed recruiting class for the 2008 season. Twelve athletes have signed Cascade Conference letters of intent with the Beacons who aim to rebound after a winless season in 2007.
Heather Henderson, Midfielder/Forward, Thurston H.S., Springfield, Ore.: Heather is a junior transfer and one-time star athlete from Thurston, where she was a First-Team All-Midwestern League honoree as a senior. Her age and maturity will give the team some instant leadership on the field and off.
Brittany McKinley, Defender, Junction City HS, Junction City, Ore.: The freshman comes in after a strong senior season with the Tigers in which she scored three goals along with seven assists.
Katelyn Nistler, Goalkeeper, Salt Lake CC, Clinton, Utah: The 6’0” Nistler will be playing collegiate soccer for the first time after focusing on basketball while at Salt Lake Community College.
Karli Vath, Midfielder, South Tahoe HS, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.: Karli comes in as a freshman after earning multiple All-Sierra League honors at South Tahoe High…She scored 16 goals and had 14 assists as a senior captain.
Brittney Yip, Midfielder, Kaiser HS, Fontana, Calif.: Another freshman transplant from California, Brittney comes in after a very successful high school career in which she was a four-year starter for Kaiser High, earning First-Team All-Sunkist League honors and grabbing a third-team All-CIF nod as a senior.
Jeneca Hoidal, Defender, Lakewood HS, Stanwood, Wash.: Jeneca is a strong athlete and will look to play a key role on the defensive unit for the Beacons. She was a First-Team All-Cascade League defender as a junior.
Donn Almeida, Midfielder, Moanalua HS, Honolulu, Hawaii: Donn is a freshman midfielder coming out of Hawaii with a very strong background. Almeida has high school, club and international soccer experience coming off a senior season in which she led the Menehune to strong showing in the state tournament.
Krista Cline, Defender, Life Pacific College, Springfield, Ore.: Cline, a three-year standout at Thurston High returns to the Eugene area for her sophomore season after playing basketball for two seasons at Life Pacific College.
Samie Thomas, Defender, Eagle River HS, Juneau, Alaska: Thomas will look to play key minutes as a freshman after a successful two-year varsity career at Eagle River High, where she was selected as team MVP as a sophomore.
Sarah Leonard, Defender, Willamette HS, Eugene, Ore.: Sarah will spend her first year at Northwest Christian using a medical redshirt as she recovers from a torn ACL, suffered during her senior season with the Wolverines. Leonard was a First-Team All-Midwestern League selection.
