Current Warrior baseball player Jason Braun is in the midst of his second season with the Bend Elks of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.
Corban's Braun Named to WCCBL West All-Star Team
WENATCHEE, Wash. – Senior-to-be Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) will take part in the 3rd annual West Coast Collegiate Baseball League's (WCCBL) All-Star Game on July 21-22 in Moses Lakes, Washington, as announced Wednesday by WCCBL president Ken Wilson.
Braun, a member of the Bend Elks, currently leads the team in Earned Run Average (ERA) after compiling a first-half total of 2.00. The 6-foot-4 right-hander has appeared in a team-high tying 10 games, including a pair of starts, while accumulating a win-loss record of 2-2 with a team-high four saves.
Mostly out of the bullpen, Braun has thrown 27.0 innings, allowing 11 runs (six earned) on 21 hits, to go along with a team-high 23 strikeouts.
Braun joins fellow NAIA player Sean Halton of Lewis-Clark State College and the WCCBL's Bellingham Bells, who was voted as the starting first baseman for the West All-Stars.
Five Bend Elks, including Braun, were named to the West All-Star Team which includes junior-to-be pitcher Johnny Hirko of Western Oregon.
WCCBL president Wilson announced the league's 2008 All-Star teams as voted on by East and West coaches. The East team, to be coached by 7th-year skipper Ed Knaggs of Wenatchee, features eight AppleSox including ace pitcher Steve Ames of Columbia Basin College. The sophomore right-hander from Vancouver, Washington leads the league in strikeouts with 40 and is tied for the league lead in wins with 5.
The West All-Star team, to be coached by rookie manager Brooke Knight of Corvallis, features eight selections from the Knights including junior-to be Logan Lotti at Oregon State. The outfielder from Chico, California is tied for the league lead in total bases with 48.
The league's third annual All-Star event sponsored by Nike is scheduled for July 21-22 in Moses Lake, Washington. The WCCBL All-Star game is Tuesday, July 22 at Larson Field. Game time is 7:30 pm (gates will open early). Pre-game, fans are welcome to enjoy CAP'T JOE'S BBQ and watch batting practice, which will be followed by a homerun derby featuring a slugger from each team.
The All-Star game is being broadcast by CKFR AM 1150 out of Kelowna, British Columbia and picked up by other radio stations in WCCBL markets. Ryan Watters, the voice of the Kelowna Falcons, will call all the action.
