Former WPC Stars Shine at Hoopla 3-on-3 Tournament in Salem
PORTLAND, Ore. – Two former Warner Pacific College basketball standouts – Jalonta Martin and Angie Sun – helped their teams win the
men’s and women’s Hoopla 3-on-3 basketball tournaments in Salem this past weekend.
The 10th annual street tournament was staged in front of the state Capitol building.
Martin, who captured first team All-Cascade Collegiate Conference honors with the Knights the past two seasons, helped NW Elite to the title in the Men’s Open Division and the $2,500 first prize. Martin was joined on his team by former Portland State Vikings Seth Stott and J.R. Moore and Hoopla tournament veteran Steve Reed. Martin had nine points in NW Elite’s title-clinching 26-21 victory over defending champion Not New To This.
Sun, who played collegiately at Warner Pacific and now serves as an assistant coach for the Knights, helped the A-Squad to a 26-20 win over Bruin 4 in the Women’s Open Division championship game. Earlier this summer, Sun helped her team to a title at the 3-on-3 Hoopfest Tournament in Spokane.
WARNER PACIFIC NOTES: Josh Jackson, who ended an outstanding career by helping WPC to its third consecutive berth in the national tournament this past March, recently signed a contract to play professionally in Romania … Scott O’Gallagher, the CCC’s 2006-07 Player of the Year who finished his WPC career this past year, is also considering options to play professionally overseas.
