Corban's Sherwood Announces Signing of Two More Recruits
SALEM, Ore. – Seventh-year head coach Justin Sherwood announced today that he has signed Ryan Fox (Lacey, Wash.) and Tyler Turner (Junction City, Ore.) to Letters of Intent for the upcoming 2008-09 season, which increases the men's basketball recruiting class to four players that will join the core of seven returnees.
"We are excited to have both Ryan and Tyler as members of the men's basketball program next season," said Sherwood. "I look forward to seeing how they will make the adjustment from high school to the college game."
Turner, a 2008 graduate of Junction City High School, averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game as a senior. The 6-foot-1 guard helped guide the Tigers to a 22-4 win-loss record and a berth into the 4A state tournament. After receiving an opening round bye, Turner and Junction City took on Brookings-Harbor and despite 11 points by the senior, the Tigers fell 62-54 en route to ending their season.
Following his senior campaign, Turner was named Sky-Em All-League honorable mention joining four other Tiger teammates on the all-league team that included Sky-Em League Player of the Year, Blair Wheadon.
Fox, an '08 graduate of Northwest Christian High School in Lacey, Washington, helped lead the Navigators to a 16-6 win-loss record and the school's first-ever berth in the 2A state tournament. The 5-foot-9 point guard averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game as a senior, while being named all-state honorable mention and all-area. A two-time member of the all-league team, Fox also earned the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Sportsmanship Award following the conclusion of the 2008 season.
The aforementioned duo will join fellow incoming recruits Erik Cronrath (Battleground, Wash.), and Winston Mueller (Klamath Falls, Ore.) in making up the men's basketball Class of 2012.
The quartet will be joining last season's Warrior squad that finished at 10-20 overall and 5-15 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Corban is scheduled to tip-off its 2008-09 season on Friday, November 21st, when the Warriors host NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
