Turner-Bolton Announces NCU Recruiting Class for 2008-09
EUGENE, Ore. – First-year Northwest Christian University women’s basketball coach Liz Turner-Bolton announced this week her first recruiting class for the 2008-09 season. Ten athletes have signed Cascade Conference letters of intent with the Beacons and will join eleven returners as they begin a dramatic overhaul of the program. The following is a run-down on each of this year’s recruits.
Katelyn Nistler, Center, Salt Lake Community College (UT), Vancouver, WA: Nistler will come in as a junior and immediately add depth in the post for the Beacons. Nistler comes in from Salt Lake Community College where she led the Bruins to a seventh place finish at the national championship after winning Region 18 and SWAC conference titles.
Jess Anderson, Guard, Oregon City HS, Oregon City, OR: Anderson is a battle-tested freshman, who was the team captain for the 2008 6A state runner-up Oregon City Pioneers.
Calie McVicker, Point Guard, Lane Community College/South Eugene HS, Eugene, OR: After spending her freshman season at Lane CC, McVicker brings in a strong defensive skill set and will be one of the fastest girls on the court for the Beacons.
Randi Keyser, Forward, Willamina HS, Willamina, OR: Keyser comes in as a freshman, after earning First-Team All-West Valley Honors three times and grabbing First-Team All-State accolades as a junior. Keyser averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals per game for the Bulldogs as a senior.
Martha Taylor, Guard, Brewster HS, Brewster, WA: A very strong all-around athlete, Taylor comes in as a freshman after earning All-State honors as a senior and playing in the Washington All-Star game after averaging nearly a triple-double with 15 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds per game.
Heidi Norris, Forward, Lowell HS, Lowell, OR: Norris will be a freshman with the Beacons and looks to inject her strength and speed into the lineup. Norris was the Mountain West League MVP as a senior, grabbing First-Team All-State honors in the process. In track, she was also a state finalist in the 200m.
Ashley King, Guard, McKenzie HS, Blue River, OR: King will be a freshman in eligibility for the Beacons. Last year she played exclusively on the NCU women’s golf team, earning First-Team All-Cascade Conference Honors, but gets back onto the court this year where she was a First-Team All-State selection for McKenzie High.
Ricki Keyser, Forward, Willamina HS, Willamina, OR: The twin sister of Randi, Keyser comes in and looks to battle for key minutes as a reserve with the Beacons. A strong all around athlete, Keyser was an All-West Valley League honorable mention for basketball, grabbing second-team all-league honors in both volleyball and softball.
Stephanie Hescock, Guard, North Douglas HS, Drain, OR: Hescock comes in from North Douglas where she led her team to a state tournament qualification after earning First-Team All-Mountain View and All-State Honorable mention as a senior.
Amanda Zempel, Guard/Forward, Enterprise HS, Redding, CA: Zempel will be a strong role player for the Beacons as a freshman, coming out of a strong high school program in California.
